1. Who does the City Attorney work for?

The City Attorney is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the City Council. The City of Poway, represented by the City Council, is the City Attorney’s "client."

2. Can the City Attorney give legal advice to private citizens?

The City Attorney cannot provide legal advice or representation to private citizens. However, there are many organizations in San Diego County that are helpful to citizens seeking legal representation or answers to legal questions. Some provide services at no cost or low cost. 3. How do I get a copy of the Municipal Code or a city ordinance?

The Municipal Code is available at the City Clerk’s Office, and online.

4. Whom do I call to report a potential Municipal Code violation?

Municipal Code violations include building codes and zoning codes, and neighborhood nuisances such as noise, trash, weeds, and vehicles parked on lawns. Municipal Code violations can be reported to the Poway Code Compliance.

5. Whom do I call to report a crime?

For emergencies, call 911. Non-emergencies should be reported to the Poway Sheriff's Department at 858-513-2800.
