The Poway Community Swim Center is temporarily operating at a reduced schedule due to the main pool controller malfunctioning. The controller is the brain of the pool system. It controls the pool circulation, filtration/backwash, and water chemistry.
The Swim Center was scheduled to reopen on Jan. 12 following its annual maintenance closure over the holidays. As staff were making final preparations, they discovered that the controller was not feeding the correct levels of chlorine and the Swim Center was not able to open as planned.
After extensive troubleshooting by Swim Center staff and the city’s contracted pool maintenance company, the decision was made to replace the main pool controller. It was ordered last week and is expected to arrive by the end of January. Installation should take one week.
Staff successfully tested making manual chlorine adjustments through the pool’s chemical feed system. The Swim Center will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 21 on a limited schedule while waiting for the new controller to arrive. Staff will manually adjust the pool chemistry each morning and increase the frequency of chemical testing throughout the day. Because extra time is needed each morning to manually prepare the pool for use, the Swim Center early morning hours will not be offered and will open at 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday only.
During this time, staff may need to temporarily close the pool if more significant chemical changes are needed. Weather patterns and pool use have the largest effect on the chemical demands of the pool.

Adult Swim - Long Course
Tuesday / Thursday: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Adult Swim – Short Course
Monday / Wednesday / Friday: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday: 4:15 to 7 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday: CLOSED
Recreational Swim
Monday through Friday: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Shallow Only) and 4:15 to 7 p.m. (All Areas Open)
Saturday/Sunday: CLOSED
Splash Pad
Monday through Sunday: CLOSED
Water Aerobics
Monday / Wednesday / Friday: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
