1. The lights at an intersection do not change fast enough or only let a few cars through at a time. Whom can I contact about this?

You can contact Traffic Engineering to report the problem. Let us know the time of day, the direction you are traveling, and which segment of the traffic light is involved. Traffic signals have to be modified periodically to accommodate changes in the City or traffic patterns. You can also submit a service request through the YourGov app or website.

2. Do the City's traffic signals record video?

No, the City’s traffic signals do not record any video.  Many signals do have cameras however the feed is not monitored and the data is not recorded.  These cameras are used solely for the detection of cars in lieu of physical loop detectors in the roadway.

3. What is the Traffic Safety Committee?

The Traffic Safety Committee meets as necessary to discuss traffic issues raised by residents or City staff. The meetings are held to determine the best course of action to improve a traffic-related issue. Some recommendations from the Committee are sent to the City Council for approval or denial. These meetings are open to the public, and you are invited to attend.

4. Whom do I call when a street light is out?

The maintenance of street lights is the responsibility of the Public Works Department. To report an outage or malfunctioning traffic signal, please contact them at 858-668-4700, or after hours at 858-668-4751. You can also submit a service request through the YourGov app or website.

Requests for new traffic signs on public streets are evaluated on a case-by-case basis following the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
