The City of Poway is proud to announce the appointment of Julie Procopio to the position of Development Services director. Procopio has 26 years of municipal experience in the San Diego region.
“In searching for the next director of Development Services, we knew it would take a special person to fill the shoes of Bob Manis,” City Manager Chris Hazeltine said.
Manis retired on June 6, with close to 40 years in public service. He led Poway’s Development Services department for 16 years.
“Julie has the right combination of dedication to public service and leadership experience to take on that challenge and serve the city, it’s residents and businesses well,” Hazeltine said.
Prior to her appointment, Procopio was the City Engineer for the City of Escondido. She led development review and capital improvement project delivery, and was instrumental in streamlining processes, improving public infrastructure, and attracting outside investment. She also worked in the City of Santee Development Services department for 15 years.
Procopio resides in nearby Scripps Ranch and, as a 20-plus year neighbor of Poway, she says she has long admired Poway’s beautiful parks, open spaces, and well-maintained streets.
“By serving the City of Poway, I have an opportunity to contribute to a community where I choose to spend much of my free time,” she said.
Procopio graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and is a registered professional engineer.
