
Located just outside of Blue Sky Ecological Reserve and at the base of Lake Poway dam is the City of Poway’s Wilderness Picnic Area.
Oak trees, native chaparral, and coastal sage scrub surround this heavily shaded area 4-acre parcel. Deer, bobcats, raccoons, and other ground creatures are regularly observed and birdlife abounds. Hikers can access the area either through an easy 1.25 mile through Blue Sky Ecological Reserve or on a one mile downhill hike from Lake Poway.
There are several picnic tables, permanent restrooms and horse tie-ups.
The area is inaccessible by vehicle.
For your safety…
- Smoking is prohibited in the picnic area.
- Glass containers are prohibited.
- Fires are prohibited.
- No overnight camping is permitted.
- Poison Oak is abundant throughout the wilderness area, take caution.
- Summer temperatures can be very hot, even under shade, and winter temperatures can also be extreme. Please remember to pack and dress accordingly.
As a courtesy to others…
- Visitors are responsible for controlling noise that could be disturbing to other activities or to the surrounding wildlife.
- Gathering wood from natural or landscaped vegetation for any purpose is prohibited.
- Placing any garbage or other waste, or using the the creek for the purpose of cleaning utensils is prohibited.
- Dumping human waste within the recreation area other than in designated sanitary facilities is prohibited.
- Trapping, killing, wounding or mistreating any wild or domesticated bird or animal is prohibited.
- No activity will be permitted which is a violation of local, state, or federal statutes. Applicants must adhere to all City policies and fire codes during their use of the picnic area.
