Enjoy a variety of boating opportunities at Lake Poway.  Motorboats and rowboats may be rented for the full-day or half-day for fishing.  You may also rent our motorboats, rowboats or pedal boats by the hour for pleasure boating.  Pedal boats are also available by the half hour. 

Boats can be rented during the following times:

November Wed-Sun 5:30 a.m. - Sunset
December - March Wed-Sun <6:00 a.m. - Sunset
April - May Wed-Sun 5:30 a.m. - Sunset
June - September Wed-Sun 7:00 a.m. - Sunset

In addition, Lake Poway is also open on President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day and boats are availalbe for rent on these holidays.

Boats cannot be reserved.  Boats are only rented on a first-come, first–serve basis.  Permits may be purchased at the Lake Poway Concession.  The boat rental prices vary depending on the type of boat and the length of your rental time. 

For your safety when in a boat:

  • Please do not engage in horseplay or unsafe boating.
  • You must be 12 years old to rent a pedal boat and 16 years old to rent a rowboat or motorboat.
  • Please do not beach boats on the shoreline except in the two locations (marked by signs) for using the restrooms.
  • A responsible person over the age of 16 must accompany children under the age of 8.
  • Children under the age of 13 must wear a life vest.
  • All passengers must be picked up and dropped off at the boat dock only.
  • Avoid running the motor into the rocks, weeds, and the lake bottom.
  • Please sit only on the seats in the boats. It is unsafe to sit on the stern, bow, or rails at any time.
  • When night fishing, the boat must have a light (provided) turned on at sunset and remain on the entire time the boat is on the Lake.  Please do not put anything over the light.
  • If you require assistance while night fishing, please signal by continuously flashing your light.

As a courtesy to others:

  • Boats must be kept out at least 1/2 hour before changing passengers.
  • All boats must be kept 100 feet from the shoreline and other boats. During bass season, you may get closer than 100 feet to the shoreline from Boulder Bay to the east end of the Log Boom provided that there are no fishermen on the shore.
  • Boats must be returned on-time.  Late returns are subject to an additional one-hour charge.
  • Please do not stand on the motors or steer the motors with your foot.
  • Human waste is to be disposed of only at the public restrooms and no containers are permitted in the boats.
  • Smoking is prohibited on the shoreline, in the boats, and within the Lake Poway Recreation Area except in the desginated smoking zone located North of the Lake Poway Concession.
  • Please note that failure to abide by any of the safety or courtesy items listed above may result in a loss of boating privileges and possible eviction from Lake Poway.
