Tired of Driving? The City of Poway offers residents and employers various public transportation options. Poway’s public transit services are provided by the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), which serves the entire southern portion of San Diego County. Effective August 31, 2008, new transit buses will be serving the City of Poway. The red and white buses are consistent with the MTS logo and fleet of buses.
Transit services in Poway include two fixed routes (Routes 844 and 845). These MTS bus routes operate within the City of Poway as well as provide daily connections to regional destinations. In addition, express bus routes provide weekday, rush hour service to and from Downtown San Diego and Poway. The City’s role in transit is to work with MTS on transit issues within the City, and to assist Poway residents with transit concerns.
The MTS website offers plenty of helpful information such as fares, how to plan a trip, and schedules and map routes. Americans with Disability Act (ADA) paratransit service is also available, to qualified, certified individuals. ADA certification is reserved for those whose disability prevents them from using the regular bus and trolley transit services. The MTS website offers paratransit information, or to receive an application for ADA certification, call toll free (877) 232-7433 or TTY/TDD at (213) 742 6535.
Bus Passes
The Compass Card, the San Diego region's new smart card for transit has replaced traditional bus passes. Go to www.511sd.com/compass to purchase or reload a Compass Card.
Call 511 and say "Compass" to speak to a customer service center representative to purchase a pass with your credit or debit card.
Airport Services - Cloud 9 SuperShuttle
Separately from MTS services, the City of Poway and Cloud 9 SuperShuttle have an agreement offering Poway residents affordable service to San Diego International Airport, the San Diego Cruise Ship Terminal, and the Santa Fe Depot train station in downtown San Diego. By living in the 92064 zip code, Poway residents enjoy a reduced shuttle fare.
The fare structure for one passenger is $36.00, two passengers pay a combined fare of $43.00, three passengers pay $50.00, four passengers pay $57.00, and five passengers pay $64.00. These rates are much lower compared to neighboring communities such as Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, and Scripps Ranch.
There is no need to request a special rate. By providing the 92064 Poway zip code when you make a reservation, you will automatically be provided with a reduced rate when you book a reservation to or from Poway's zip code.
