Historical Tour Program Kicks Off at Old Poway Park
Posted Date: 11/20/2009

Poway, CA – The City of Poway, the Poway Historical Society, and the Poway-Midland Railroad will kick off the historical tour program in December 2009, at Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road. The program is educational and entertaining for all ages and is an excellent choice for school, church or community groups that want to learn more about Poway history and train safety. Tour groups can range from 20 to 60 participants and the cost is $4 per person; teachers are free, as well as one parent or guardian for every twenty students.

The tour is comprised of Operation Lifesaver, a train safety program designed to educate tour participants about the potential dangers of trains and proper railroad safety. Following Operation Lifesaver, all tour guests will take a ride on Poway-Midland Railroad’s speeder car.

Poway Historical Society docents will lead tours of the Nelson House, a turn-of-the-century Poway farmhouse, where participants will learn what it was like to live in Poway 100 years ago. Groups will also tour the Heritage Museum and will be educated on the daily lives of the average Poway family with an emphasis on the lives of children of that time period.

The City of Poway invites you to come to Old Poway Park and learn more about Poway history and train safety. Please schedule tours 10 days in advance. To book your group tour visit us online at www.poway.org/oldpowaypark, or for more information call 858-668-4576.
